Europa League 2019/20 seedings: Manchester United and Arsenal learn pot fate

Manchester United missed out on the Champions League for next season by finishing sixth in the Premier League and now Arsenal have joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men in the Europa League .

The Gunners could have qualified for next season's Champions League alongside the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea by winning the Europa League final but they lost 4-1 in Baku to the Blues on Wednesday.

It now means both Arsenal and Man Utd will have to suffer the ignominy of having to play in the second-rate European competition during the 2019/20 campaign.

But considering the tough competition in the Premier League next season, there is no guarantee that United can make the top four and winning the Europa League offers an avenue back towards the Champions League.

While not all the pots are decided due to the myriad of possibilities which are yet to play out, United and Arsenal are guaranteed a place in pot one.

This means that United and Arsenal will avoid Sevilla, Besiktas, Sporting Lisbon and CSKA Moscow in the group stage. However, the two English clubs could still meet the likes of Serie A giants AC Milan.

Except for the aforementioned six teams guaranteed of a pot one status for the Europa League, the qualification process for the Champions League and Europa League itself will determine the make-up of the rest of the competition for next season.
