A punter in Dublin got the New Year off to a flying start after a small flutter landing a tasty four-figure sum from just three lucky Lotto numbers.
The brave punter took on huge odds winning 1,500 times the amount of their bet thanks to just three lucky numbers, snatching a cool €7,505.
The anonymous person placed a €5 treble in a BoyleSports shop in the capital on Friday and was left hoping for the trio of numbers to drop in the main EuroMillions draw later that evening.
The massive odds soon began to become smaller and smaller as the numbers 16, 32 and 44 all dropped out of the machine with the punter soon swapping their betslip for some cash instead.
If they had matched the three numbers on a EuroMillions ticket, they would have bagged just €9.
A spokeswoman for BoyleSports,Lawrence Lyons, said: "Sometimes just a small stake can go a long way and we have to hand it to our customer in Dublin for their ambitious approach.
He added: "We wish them huge congratulations on an amazing start to the new year."
