Eurocentral incident: Man rushed to hospital with serious injuries after disturbance on M8 flyover

A man is being treated in hospital after being seriously injured in a disturbance which took place on a bridge over the M8 motorway near to Eurocentral.

Police and emergency crews were called to reports of a disturbance on the M8 westbound at Junction 7 near Holytown around 5pm yesterday (August 10).

A 30-year-old man was then rushed to University Hospital Wishaw for treatment. His present condition is unknown.

Photos from the scene show two police vehicles blocking access to either end of the flyover next to Eurocentral at Junction 7, which remains closed as enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.

The closure has led to delays for commuters this morning as traffic queues on the A8 eastbound at Chapelhall.

Local reports suggest the man was stabbed during the disturbance.

Detectives in Lanarkshire have are now urging anyone with information that could assist their investigation to come forward.

Detective Inspector David Lamont, of Wishaw CID, said: “Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone with information that could assist our investigation to come forward.

“The roads in the area will have been busy at the time so anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious is asked to get in touch. We are particularly interested in speaking with any motorists who were in the area and may have dashcam footage that could assist with our enquiries.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 2686 of 10 August, or call Crimestoppers on anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
