Euro 2020: Wembley to welcome more than 60,000 fans for semi-final and final

The UK government has confirmed that more than 60,000 fans will be able to watch the Euro 2020 semi-final and final at Wembley.

The increase in spectators means that Wembley will now allocate 75 per cent of its 90,000 seats.

Currently Wembley is only allowed to fill 25 percent of its capacity which is 22,500 fans. That will be the capacity for Tuesday night's game against the Czech Republic.

There were doubts if more fans would have been allowed to attend after it was announced the government were to push back their date of the ending coronavirus restrictions.

The rising cases of the Delta variant were also a cause for concern.

The decision comes a day after the Italian Prime Minister called for the Euro 2020 final to be moved to Rome as he described the final was being “held in a country where infections are rising quickly”.

According to Italian news agency ANSA, a source at UEFA said the "English federation and the English authorities are working closely together successfully to organise the semi-finals and the final of Euro 2020 at Wembley and there are no plans to change the venue for those matches".
