The group stages of Euro 2020 are really starting to take shape now.
We know that the top two teams from all six groups will progress through to the knockout stages once each side in every group has played each other. The four-best third-placed teams will also go through, too.
As ever in tournament football, though, it could come down to permutations.

If third-placed teams are tied on points across different groups, then there are stipulations to decide which team will progress.
The first port of call is which team has the superior goal difference. If they cannot be separated on that front, then it comes down to the higher number of goals scored.
The next on the list is which team has the highest number of wins, however if that doesn't produce a winner then it comes down to the team with the best disciplinary record through the tournament.
If in the unlikely scenario that does not separate the sides, then it will come down to the position they hold in the overall European Qualifiers rankings.
In order, this is how the four-best third-placed teams are decided, according to UEFA:
- Higher number of points
- Superior goal difference
- Higher number of goals scored
- Higher number of wins
- Lower disciplinary points total based only on yellow and red cards received in all group matches (red card = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion for two yellow cards in one match = 3 points)
- Position in the overall European Qualifiers rankings
