Joy for Italy and despair for Spain as the Azzurri win a penalty shootout at Wembley to advance to the final of Euro 2020.

See how the action unfolded.

That's it from me this morning

Well that was fun. That turned out to be quite an excellent match, which you can't always say for semi-finals at major tournaments. Spain were fantastic, and tested every inch of Italy's resolve. But the Azzurri hung on during the tough times, hit back when they needed to and kept their cool in the shootout.

So it's Italy in the final, but who will join them? It's England and Denmark tomorrow morning, and the blog will be back for that one too. Let's hope it's as good a game as we got this morning. Plenty more to come over at ABC Sport too, so don't go far. See you tomorrow.

Forza Azzurri

On balance of this game, Italy can consider themselves a little lucky to have qualified through to the final. But on the balance of the whole tournament, they have certainly earned it. Even tonight, when Spain were flying and had complete control of the game, the Italian defence was strong enough to keep their team in the game. Federico Chiesa opened the scoring with a breakaway goal, but when Alvaro Morata equalised for Spain, it looked as if their dominance might finally tell.

But when it came down to the shootout, it was Gianluigi Donnarumma and Jorginho who were the heroes, keeping their cool when Morata couldn't. They did it the hard way tonight, but nobody can begrudge the Italians a spot in the Euro 2020 final. They'll be hard to stop too.

A stutter, a step, a gentle penalty rolled past Unai Simon into the back of the net. Italy, after 120 minutes in which they lived on the back foot, are into the Euro 2020 final.

Penalties here we come! Italy 1-1 Spain after extra time

Nothing really to speak of as far as chances go in that extra-time period, so we take this semi-final to the spot.

It's all up for grabs now.

120': Penalties looming

Thiago had a chance to make something happen there, but absolutely wellied his attempted pass behind for a goal kick. Spot kicks all but certain now.

118': Yellow card for Bonucci

Not much in it. Slightly high boot that Morata made the most of.

116': Can anyone fire one more shot?

Italy are looking marginally more likely, but with penalties looming they might soon settle for a shootout. Extra-time has been predictably bitsy, but there is still time for a hero to emerge.

110': Berardi puts it in the back of the net...

But the flag is up! Was a good finish, but he was definitely offside. Moments before, he had tiptoed into the box and seen a shot blocked. Italy making a late push for it.
