Nico Schulz fired home a late winner as Germany began qualification for Euro 2020 with a thrilling 3-2 victory over old rivals the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Sunday.
The visitors had cruised into a 2-0 half-time lead courtesy of Leroy Sane and a fine strike from Serge Gnabry, yet collapsed after the break as they let in goals from Matthijs de Ligt and Memphis Depay.
There was similar late drama in Belfast, where substitute Josh Magennis ensured that Northern Ireland maintained their winning start to qualifying and topped Group C after Jonny Evans' header was quickly cancelled out by Igor Stasevich.
Elsewhere, captain Eden Hazard marked his 100th senior international cap with an early goal and Michy Batshuayi also netted as Belgium beat familiar foes Cyprus in Group I. Robert Lewandowski helped Poland record a 2-0 win over Latvia and Slovenia and Macedonia played out a 1-1 draw in Ljubljana.
Earlier in the day, Daniel James notched on his first competitive start for Wales in a slender defeat of Slovakia in Cardiff and Scotland responded to their humiliation in Kazakhstan with an unconvincing victory over minnows San Marino.
There was a shock defeat for World Cup finalists Croatia in Hungary, while Israel and Russia both hit four goals in respective wins over Austria and Kazakhstan.
After their 5-0 thrashing of the Czech Republic at Wembley, England return to action against Montenegro in Podgorica on Monday evening.
