This summer's European Championship has been postponed until next year as the coronavirus continues to wreak havoc on the footballing calendar.
UEFA convened a meeting on Tuesday with leading lights from the continent's various authorities - and the international tournament was high on the agenda.
Domestic leagues around Europe are currently postponed and face a race against time to conclude their current seasons, with many believing the postponement of Euro 2020 would allow them to full this season's current fixtures.
And UEFA are understood to have agreed to postpone the international tournament, with a new date set for next summer, according to the Norwegian FA.
A statement from the Norwegian FA read: "UEFA has decided that the European Championship is postponed to 2021. It will be played from 11 June to 11 July next year. More information coming."
UEFA, who is yet to confirm the decision, has proposed that the June 12-July 12 tournament to be held in 12 countries be put back to June 11-July 11 next year to give the suspended domestic leagues time to be completed.
The proposal was agreed during a video conference with all 55 of its affiliated national football federations and representatives of clubs, leagues and players.
The decision will go before UEFA's Executive Committee for final sign-off later on Tuesday.
A host of other situations have been discussed on Tuesday - and Gareth Southgate could see England games put on hold for a YEAR.
UEFA could also potentially abandon the Nations League completely.
That would mean there would be no international football until next March with the resumption of the Euro play-offs and potential England friendlies as part of the emergency plan.
They will also discuss plans for the Champions League and Europa League and, while they are determined to finish this season’s competition, there is serious doubt about next year’s European club competitions.
It is a major blow for English football because Wembley was due to stage England’s Group matches at the Euros and the final on July 12 but it is believed UEFA’s plan is to push the whole tournament back by a year but keep the same dates and venues.
