Euro 2020 postponed: Coronavirus claims major tournament as new date is revealed

Euro 2020 has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The major tournament is now scheduled to take place next year.

The move, which was revealed following a UEFA meeting this morning, had been expected after COVID-19 prompted a football shutdown across Europe.

Scotland had been scheduled to meet Israel in the Euro 2020 playoff on March 26, but that game has been postponed. The winner was due to play either Norway or Serbia for a place at the tournament.

However the event has now been pushed back a year.

According to reports matches will be played between 11 June and 11 July next year.

This could allow the football season to be finished this summer depending on how the coronavirus situation develops in the coming months.

More to follow.
