Euro 2020 play-off: No immediate Coronavirus threat to Northern Ireland's March 26 shootout in Bosnia

There is no imminent threat of Northern Ireland’s forthcoming Euro 2020 play-off with Bosnia and Herzegovina being called off due to the Coronavirus, according to reports in Sarajevo.

Michael O’Neill’s men are scheduled to face the Bosnians in a semi-final shootout in Zenica on March 26, with 850 fans also planning to travel to the Balkans.

The Irish FA is continuing to take advice from UEFA and the relevant health organisations amid fears the global Covid-19 outbreak will lead to a series of high profile sporting postponements.

Ireland’s Six Nations rugby fixture with France in Paris this weekend was called off earlier today due to fears around the impact of Coronavirus.

However, it is understood the Bosnian football association met with health officials in Sarajevo on Monday and as things stand the game will proceed as planned.

Bosnian journalist Haris Mrkonja - who works for TV N1 Sarajevo - tweeted: “Their conclusions are that there is no need at this moment to postpone or play behind closed doors.”

While the Bosnia and Herzegovina FA accepts the situation could change over the course of the next fortnight, Mrkonja claimed “at the moment there is no cause for alarm”.

Mrkonja, who revealed ticket sales for the tie commence on Tuesday, tweeted...

Three cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bosnia and Herzegovina with almost 250 people under surveillance in the areas affected.
