Euro 2020 may now be held in December amid coronavirus chaos - reports

Euro 2020 could now be staged in December this year, according to reports.

The Telegraph say Uefa officials will consider the radical proposal at a crunch meeting on Tuesday after the sporting world went into lockdown amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The Uefa emergency meeting will see representatives from all 55 member associations debate the best way forward.

Football bosses must work out how to finish the various league seasons around Europe, with no definitive time frame on when things will return to normal. As well as Euro 2020, the Champions League and Europa League finals could also be moved.

The summer of 2021 remains an option for the Euros, which Wales have once again qualified for after reaching the semi-finals in 2016.

Moving the Euros to December would mirror the current plans for the 2022 World Cup, which is being played in November and December to help players cope with the heat in Qatar.

Premier League and EFL football matches are currently on hold until early April, but there remains significant doubt fixtures will resume then.

One option could be to scrap the entire season, but most clubs are adamant the season must be finished, even if that means playing on into the summer, when the Euros are currently scheduled for.

As well as football, a host of major sporting events, including the Six Nations and Masters golf tournament, have been postponed.
