Euro 2020 headlines as Belgium star Romelu Lukaku pays touching Christian Eriksen tribute and Joe Allen makes VAR admission

Here are your latest Euro 2020 headlines for Sunday, June 13.

Lukaku's touching Eriksen tribute

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku paid a touching tribute to his club team-mate Christian Eriksen after scoring his side's opener in their win against Russia.

The frontman raced towards a pitchside camera before shouting "Chris, Chris! I love you."

Belgium went on to win the game 3-0, with Lukaku collecting the man of the match award.

The football world was left in shock on Saturday evening after Eriksen collapsed during Denmark's clash with Finland.

The Inter Milan star fell to the ground just before half time and needed CPR on the pitch before being rushed to hospital.

The Danish FA later confirmed that Eriksen was awake in his hospital bed. Play eventually resumed as Finland won 1-0 at Copenhagen's Parken Stadium, although the football world rallied around Eriksen after the shock incident.

Simon Kjaer's poignant moment

Simon Kjaer was hailed for his quick thinking when it came to assisting Eriksen after the 29-year-old collapsed on Saturday.

The AC Milan defender rushed to the aid of his Danish team-mate before medics took over.

Eriksen's girlfriend Sabrina Kvist Jensen was in the stands but walked down to the touchline as the midfielder was carried off the pitch on a stretcher before being rushed to hospital.

She was consoled by the Denmark players while Kjaer embraced his team-mate's partner during what were upsetting scenes.

Kieffer's back with a bang

Kieffer Moore admits he was relieved to get the nod to start for Wales against Switzerland.

The forward started just two of the eight matches played under Rob Page before the Euros, with both of those coming in friendlies.

However, Moore returned with a bang in Baku and scored the equaliser as Wales claimed a point against the Swiss.

And the 28-year-old says his time on the fringes in the build-up to the European Championship was difficult to take.

"False nine is not ideal for a nine," admitted the Cardiff City forward.

"We were getting results and beating good teams and it was working but when I was told I was playing I was made up.

"When I put on a Wales shirt I give it my all, I’m a threat and occupy defenders.

"I didn’t like finding myself out of the team but I'm made up that I’m back in and scoring goals."

Joe Allen's VAR admission

Joe Allen admits Wales should be happy with a point after coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Switzerland in their Euro 2020 opener.

Kieffer Moore cancelled out Breel Embolo's effort to ensure the points were shared at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

"It was a hard game. I think in the first half they kept attacking us and it was hard to keep the ball. In this type of game that's very important," Allen told Sgorio.

"After going behind in the game we kept the ball a bit better, created a few chances and thankfully got the goal to get ourselves back in the game.

"We're players who keep battling in every situation and in every game. After going behind, I think we can be happy getting a point."

Switzerland thought they had won the game five minutes from time when substitute Mario Gavranovic rifled beyond Danny Ward seconds after coming on to the pitch.

However, the goal was disallowed after the video assistant referee spotted that the forward was in an offside position.

And Stoke City midfielder Allen was clearly grateful to the technology for disallowing the goal.

"I've spent the last year hating VAR but I love VAR now. VAR for life," said Allen after the game.
