Cristiano Ronaldo equals Ali Daei's record for international goals

A good night for Portugal, but a wonderful one for Cristiano Ronaldo.
With his two penalties, he has now equaled the goal scoring record of Iranian striker Ali Daei with 109 international goals.
Daei played 149 times between 1993 and 2006 for Iran.
Ronaldo has made 178 appearances for Portugal, and will hope to add to his tally in Seville against Belgium on Monday, June 28 (AEST).

This morning's goal-fest
There were 18 goals across four matches this morning - that's a record for a single day at the European Championships according to our friends at Opta.
If you've not caught up yet, one of them was a hilarious own goal, which you can check out here.

Portugal qualifies. Again

For the eighth time in eight European championships appearances, Portugal has reached the knockout rounds.
The reigning champions will face a tough test in La Cartuja Stadium, Seville, when they meet the world number one-ranked Belgium. That will be a contest for the ages.

PORTUGAL VS FRANCE
Full time: Portugal 2-2 France

That's it! In the end, a point would have been enough for both teams, and it finishes a point apiece thanks to two goals apiece from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.
After a barnstorming first 80 minutes, the game rather petered out.
Both teams qualify for the last 16, Germany in second spot, Portugal in third.
Hungary, despite their brave efforts, are knocked out.

PORTUGAL VS FRANCE
90+2' Should that be a penalty France?
Wow! Kingsley Coman was brought down in, or just outside the penalty area, a clear foul by Bruno Hernandez.
VAR is checking it...
No penalty.
Would have had to be because it happened outside the box, which I believe is outside VAR's jurisdiction, because that was a clear foul, despite the protests from the Portuguese defenders.

GERMANY VS HUNGARY
Full-Time: Germany escape with a draw!

It's over in Munich, and Germany is through after the fright of their lives against Hungary.
Full credit to the Hungarians, who have got results out of France and Germany, but fallen just short of qualfication.
The Germans breathe a sigh of relief, but they will have to improve for the knockout stages!

PORTUGAL VS FRANCE
Substitutes
Both teams ring the changes.
Portugal: Renato Sanches makes way for Sérgio Oliveira.
France: Moussa Sissoko comes on in place of Griezmann.

GERMANY VS HUNGARY
90' Into added time
Germany controlling the ball in a very German-like fashion near the corner post.
Four added minutes between them and a round of 16 game against England!

PORTUGAL VS FRANCE
86' Chance France
Griezmann blasts over from 25 yards out.
It was at the end of an insane move from France that started with some wonderful one-touch passing in their own far left pocket.
It would have been an incredible goal on that basis, instead, just another missed chance.

PORTUGAL VS FRANCE
84' Yellow card Presnel Kimpembe (France)
As easy a decision that the referee has made all day, Kimpembe flies through the back of Ronaldo.

GERMANY VS HUNGARY
83' As soon as I say it....
...Germany scores! good work by Timo Werner on the left. The ball goes into the middle on the edge of the box, a shot is deflected back to Leon Goretzka, who fires a shot low into the bottom right corner!
Germany now leaps to second spot in the table, and Hungary are out as it stands.

GROUP F
What does all this mean?
As it stands, France qualifies as group winners, Portugal go through as runners up and meet England at Wembley.
Germany will be out.
Hungary will finish third and also qualify as one of the best third-placed finishers.
Of course, this can all change in an instant...

GERMANY VS HUNGARY
80' It's not looking great for Germany
Germany have struggled for most of the night to break down the Hungarian defence, and they are lobbing crosses in without joy.
THAT, however was better! A brilliant one-two from Tony Kroos and Robin Gosens found Kroos again inside the box, and his dink across goal on the run skittered agonisingly past the post!
Time is ticking, though ...

Germany! Cannot get a break from the tenacious Hungry!!

PORTUGAL VS FRANCE
68' DOUBLE SAVE!
Oh wow! What a save from Rui Patrício!
First up from Paul Pogba, whose brilliant effort from outside the area was sensationally turned onto the crossbar by the leaping, diving keeper.
Then, Patrício has the presence of mind to get back up and pull off another brilliant save from Griezmann at his near post!
Incredible goalkeeping, I mean, it really does not get any better than that.
Pogba's shot alone would have arguably been goal of the tournament such was the lovely buildup from France and then the step and shift onto his right boot, but the save. Wow.
