Euro 2020 final: Who is Gareth Southgate's wife Alison?

Gareth Southgate will take England to the Euro 2020 final on Sunday after a heroic win against Denmark.

The Three Lions triumphed after striker Harry Kane scored in extra time to make it 2-1 at Wembley.

Southgate's men will play Italy in the final - England's first major international final since 1966.

Throughout the tournament, Southgate has been supported by his wife Alison - but who is she and how long have they been together?

The couple got married in 1997 in Southgate's home town of Crawley, West Sussex.

They have two children together, daughter Mia and son Flynn.

How did Gareth Southgate meet his wife Alison?

According to the Mirror, Southgate spotted Alison working a boutique, but it took him a long time to muster up the courage and ask her out.

He said he would pop into the shop, loiter around and pretend to look at clothes in the hope of speaking to her.

But Alison had a boyfriend she was living with at the time.

Southgate's first attempt to ask her out didn't lead to anything, but then he met Alison and her then-boyfriend at a restaurant a week later.

After hearing they were on the verge of splitting, Southgate slipped Alison his number when her ex wasn't looking - and she ended up ringing him that night.

The pair organised to meet the next day, but worried about her ex, they met in the local Tesco car park.

They would later tie the knot in July 1997.

How many children does Gareth Southgate have?

They have two children, Mia, 22 and Flynn, 17 and are a very tight-knit family.

Speaking to the Evening Standard in 2018 ahead of the World Cup, Southgate said: "Over the last couple of weeks I’ve just had a nice time spending it with the family though, and for me, that’s important because my kids are 18 and 14, and their development is as important for me as anything else in my life.

“You do have to try to find a balance because my focus inevitably gets drawn towards making this team as successful as we can and driving them to be the best team in the world, but I’m also a dad and a husband.”
