
Turkish forces and Free Syrian Army troops on Sunday registered military advances carried out under Operation Olive Branch in Syrian city Afrin.
The Sheikh Hadid area west of the city was claimed under Turkish and FSA full control.
Sheikh Hadid is the third area to fall under the control of Operation Olive Branch forces after Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) troops were driven out.
YPG militias were also driven out from Rajo town.
According to the Turkish news agency Anadolu, the Turkish army and FSA troops, have taken control of the town of Rajo. Forces have also reportedly captured the villages of Ramadiye and Hamilek to the south-west of Afrin during the offensive.
The advance comes after the Haj Khalil village was purged from YPG presence.
In January 2018, the Turkish military launched a military operation, code-named Operation Olive Branch, in the Kurdish-controlled Afrin District and the Tell Rifaat Subdistrict in Northern Syria.
Factions continued their advance and took over five new positions after controlling the Sheikh Hadid area west of Afrin.
According to Turkish military and FSA sources, forces involved in Operation Olive Branch took control of four new villages in Rajo’s vicinity.
The number of locations controlled by Operation Olive Branch increased to 134 points, 102 villages, 6 farms, 22 hill and strategic heights, and a military base.
The Turkish army announced on Sunday that it had taken control of seven new towns and villages in Afrin, northern Syria.
The Turkish Chief of Staff announced on Sunday neutralizing 2,612 militants since the start of Operation Olive Branch.
The statement stressed that these operations targeted only terrorists, their hideouts, shelters, locations, weapons, vehicles and tools. All precautions were taken to ensure that civilians and the environment were not harmed and that the operation was continuing as planned.
