Madonna biopic sees Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney and Barbie Ferreira at war for main role

Euphoria stars Sydney Sweeney and Barbie Ferreira are the new potential candidates to play the Queen of Pop Madonna in the upcoming biopic.

The teen drama actresses are reportedly up against Julia Garner, from Ozark, and the one and only Florence Pugh.

Sydney, 24, and Barbie, 25, became instant fan-favourites thanks to their roles in the HBO series Euphoria.

The former stars as Cassie Howard while the latter stars as Kat Hernandez.

Mirror have contacted the representatives of Sydney and Barbie.

The news of Sydney and Barbie auditioning for the role alongside Julia came from Jeff Sneider of The Ankler.

Sydney is reportedly one of the options (HBO)

Mirror exclusively revealed that the Material Girl singer has been looking for the 'perfect' actress to play her on screen.

Little Women actress Florence, 25, is reportedly one of the top options.

Madonna is also co-writing and directing the highly-anticipated biopic.

An insider told the Sunday Mirror : “Realistically, there are only a couple of people in town who could pull this role off.

Barbie and Sydney both star in Euphoria (HBO)

“The bosses who are helping put the movie together want Florence and nobody doubts that she could be amazing.

“On the other hand, fans and the press have already weighed in and, from that perspective, Julia is their frontrunner because she is such a dead ringer for early-career Madonna.

“Still, there are serious politics and scheduling issues in the way of Julia landing the part.

“The final decision will be Madonna’s alone since she’s directing and it’s her story.

“She’s really only got one shot to get this right. Like with Elton John’s Rocketman, there isn’t room for error. She’s putting herself under serious pressure to find the perfect person.”

The star has reportedly finalised the script with the help from Girl On The Train writer Erin Cressida Wilson.

Filming is scheduled to start soon – 40 years after her debut single Everybody came out in October 1982.

There is also a chance that Kanye West's ex-girlfriend Julia Fox could play as Debi Mazar in the new film.

Madonna had recently said that she and the Uncut Gems star chatted about her potentially joining the cast while they were out together in Los Angeles.
