Eunan O'Kane departs Leeds United to join Championship rivals

Leeds United have confirmed that midfielder Eunan O'Kane has joined Luton Town on a permanent deal.

The Republic of Ireland international has not played since breaking his leg in September 2018 shortly after joining the Hatters on a season-long loan deal following the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa.

He now joined the Hatters on an 18-month deal.

“When I arrived here I immediately fell in love with the place. I did feel a part of the group last year," he told the Luton website.

“I have been around and I’ve seen a few games so I do have a soft spot for here already and I’m really excited to be back. There’s been a lot of changes since I was last here, but I’m excited to get going again.

“The club have always been in contact with me, checking how I am. There have been multiple conversations about coming back in different windows, so it’s good to finally be in a position where I’m close to playing, hopefully, and be able to make it happen.”

O'Kane arrived at Elland Road from Bournemouth in 2016 on a two-year deal and quickly established himself in the first-team. A new four-year contract followed in August 2017 as he went on to rack up 58 appearances for the club before being frozen out by Bielsa.

His exit follows the permanent departures of Lewie Coyle and Pawel Cibicki earlier in the current January transfer window.

Leeds are not expected to bring in any new faces before tomorrow's deadline, with Elia Caprile, Ian Poveda and Jean-Kevin Augustin already having been signed this month.
