James Corden has made a fervent plea for Britons to vote to stay in the European Union, saying that barriers in the world should be lifted rather than heightened.
The English comedian, who is known for his hugely successful Carpool Karaoke, said that while he didn’t usually get involved in politics he felt too strongly about the issue not to speak out.
Speaking on his US Late Late Show on Wednesday, Corden argued that jokes and interests transcended borders and called for a unified world.
“I'm not one to usually get very political … But I really hope we all vote to remain in the EU. I really do,” Corden told the audience.
“It will be better for our economy and better for our industry, and better for our international relations. But mostly because it represents so much more than that,” ” he continued.
“In today's world, I think the barriers should be coming down, not going up. I heard the other day that our show plays in 135 countries, which amazes me, I don't even think I can name 135 countries…”
“Wherever someone was born or wherever they live we can share the same jokes and stories and interests and ultimately we are all in this together and the more we embrace that the better our world will be.”
Corden then joked about what had come over him and quipped that he’d turned into talk show host John Oliver who is known for voicing his political views.
