With a touch of Scandinavian innocence, Margot Wallstrom, EU commissioner for institutional relations and communications, decided to let anyone post comments on her weblog. She probably wasn't prepared for the hundreds of abrasive UK Eurosceptics just waiting to flame her.
So far Ms Wallstrom - who is also vice president of the commission - is magnamimous, telling trolls: "The EU-negative crowd in the UK or elsewhere seem very happy to have found in me another object of hatred — help yourselves!" Surely it can't be long until Peter Mandelson follows her into cyberspace.
