European Union (EU) leaders reached an agreement on migration following all-night talks in Brussels, Belgium. The breakthrough is set to overcome issues with free travel zones, Italy’s demands for more help and German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government.
EU Council President Donald Tusk tweeted early Friday that “EU28 leaders have agreed in [summit] conclusions, including on migration”, which was the centre of discussions at the EU’s two-day summit.
Italy had earlier blocked summit agreements, pushing its EU peers to meet demands over migration.
The euro jumped 0.6 per cent on Friday in response to the announcement that consensus had been reached.
