Etihad Airways to offer free medical travel insurance for Abu Dhabi visitors

Etihad Airways and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) have launched a new initiative that will provide complimentary medical travel insurance to eligible international visitors flying to or through Abu Dhabi.

Under the programme, travellers arriving on Etihad-operated flights between July and December 2026 will automatically receive medical travel insurance coverage for up to 15 days in the UAE. The cover will be provided by The National Insurance Company – Daman, part of PureHealth.

The airline said no separate application will be required, as the insurance will be automatically included with qualifying Etihad tickets.

Who is eligible?

The offer applies to international travellers whose journey originates outside the UAE and whose ticket is purchased outside the country. Visitors using Etihad’s complimentary Abu Dhabi Stopover Programme will also be covered during their stay.

Etihad said the initiative is designed to make travel to Abu Dhabi easier and provide visitors with added peace of mind during their trip.

Supporting tourism growth

Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, said the programme reflects growing international interest in the emirate.

“Global interest in Abu Dhabi continues to grow, reflecting the destination’s unparalleled year-round cultural, tourism and entertainment offering,” he said.

“This initiative ensures we meet that demand with an exceptional, end-to-end visitor experience.”

Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer Antonoaldo Neves said the insurance cover removes an additional concern for travellers.

“Abu Dhabi is one of the most captivating destinations in the world, and our job is to make both getting here and being here as seamless as possible,” he said.

“Giving comprehensive medical insurance with every eligible Etihad ticket means our guests can focus entirely on experiencing the extraordinary Emirati hospitality Abu Dhabi has to offer.”

Coverage included with ticket

Daman Chief Executive Officer Khaled Ateeq Aldhaheri said the partnership integrates medical protection directly into the travel experience.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort by Etihad and DCT Abu Dhabi to strengthen the visitor experience and encourage more international travellers to visit the UAE capital, which is home to attractions such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Saadiyat Island and Yas Island.

The complimentary medical cover will be available to eligible travellers booking Etihad-operated flights through December 2026, subject to terms and conditions.
