The Special Envoy of the Ethiopian Prime Minister Ambassador Mahmoud Dirir has proposed a plan to resolve the Sudanese crisis and bring the parties back to the negotiating table in order to discuss the transition to a civilian government and the signing of a declaration of principles.

Khartoum will host Saturday a meeting between the Ethiopian meditator and the Forces of Freedom and Change, following a meeting in Addis Ababa for representatives of the forces and AU Commissioner Moussa Faki Mahamat in the union headquarters.

African Union envoy to Sudan Mohamed El Hassan Ould Labat told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper on Friday that a delegation of the Freedom and Change convened with AU Commissioner. Labat described the meeting as “clear, transparent and frank” where the delegation presented its vision and listened to visions of the AU.

In a press release issued on Friday, the delegation said that the meeting was expected to witness the participation of Head of Sudan Liberation Movement Minni Arko Minawi and Deputy Chairman of Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North Yasir Arman.

However both figures didn’t show up, and the attendees were only representatives of the Freedom and Change: Mariam al-Mahdi, Wajdi Saleh, Hassan Abd al-Ati, Montaser al-Tayeb, and Mutaz Saleh.

Ethiopian sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that Dirir would return to Khartoum Saturday morning with a plan of the mediation to resolve the Sudanese crisis.

According to a source from the Freedom and Change – who spoke to the newspaper – the Ethiopian mediator has handed them the declaration which falls within the generally agreed upon framework.

In Khartoum, member of the Joint Negotiating Committee at the Freedom and Change El Tayeb Abbas told Asharq Al-Awsat that Dirir handed out a declaration of principles to the Forces and the Transitional Military Council – there are no disputes regarding it and signing an agreement is expected between the two parties on Saturday.
