Ethical products shop in Nottingham to close after 6 years in business

A lifestyle shop in Nottingham known for its assortment of sustainable and ethical products will not be renewing its lease, the owners have confirmed.

Green Emporium in Haydn Road, Sherwood, opened its doors in 2014 after starting the company in 2009, running an e-commerce store and selling at events around Nottingham since 2012.

Owners Sally Arundell and Neale Court state on their website the idea sprang from wanting to have a greener lifestyle and struggling to find environmentally-friendly replacements for everyday essentials.

The seed then grew into a fully fledged business, offering an array of items from natural baby care, beauty, gifts and household products that "don't cost the earth".

While the business is set to continue through the website and events in the local area, the owners announced on Facebook the shop would cease trading by October 24.

The statement read: "We have an announcement to make about the Green Emporium shop at 5 Haydn Road.

"The shop lease has come to an end and due to many, many reasons, we are not renewing it, so the shop will be closed after Saturday, October 24.

"The good news is that we will instead be returning to Sherwood’s monthly street market, from November 15.

"Weather and pandemic permitting of course."

As the stall will not have as much space as the store, Green Emporium is offering a small clearance in the shop, so there is a chance to pick up some discounted items.

The statement added: "This has not been an easy decision to make and we would like to thank each and every one of our lovely customers for your loyal support over the past six years, it has been a privilege to welcome you into our little shop and we shall miss your kind words and cheery smiles.

"Hopefully many of you will be visiting the market as there are some really good stalls!"

Over the years there has been an increase in shops across Nottinghamshire offering alternatives to the supermarket chains in order to live more eco-conscious lives.
