Ethan Pocic, Jarran Reed get into scuffle at Seahawks practice

Tempers flared at Thursday’s training camp practice for the Seattle Seahawks, as guard Ethan Pocic and defensive tackle Jarran Reed got into a skirmish that ended with both players getting kicked off the field.

Pocic and Reed ended up on the ground, and other players joined in to defend each other. No one was hurt, but coach Pete Carroll made a point to emphasize how impactful fighting can be in game situations.

“It’s really important for us to recognize how devastating that could be,” Carroll commented. “In a game when you only got so many guys and you lose one position, it could change the whole complexion of the game for you. We cannot resort to that, at any time. So I was pleased to throw them out and fine them and the whole thing.”

It is unclear what the fine will be, or exactly how many players will be subjected to it.

Pocic is competing for a backup guard spot. He filled in for veteran Mike Iupati on the starting unit today while he recovers from a foot injury.

Reed will be Seattle’s starting defensive tackle after he returns from the six-game suspension he received from the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, stemming from an incident at his Bellevue home in 2017.
