Ethan Laird loan exit from Manchester United confirmed

Ethan Laird's loan from Manchester United to Swansea City has been confirmed.

The young United right-back has signed on a season-long loan with the Championship club, where he will reunite with Russell Martin, the manager who took him on loan at MK Dons last season.

Laird, who has just turned 20, has only made two senior appearances for United but is highly rated by the coaches at Old Trafford.

After struggling with various injury issues during his time in the academy, he found his feet in League One last term, shining in a right wing-back role under Martin, who plays a progressive passing style of football.

Laird will now be asked to make the step up to second tier football, hoping to emulate the likes of James Garner and Teden Mengi who shone in the Championship on loan from United last season.

He watched the Swans' 0-0 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday evening at the Liberty Stadium in South Wales. And now after completing a medical and personal terms, he will remain with Martin's side until the end of the campaign.

“I am buzzing, I cannot wait to get started and get out on the pitch,” he told the Swansea website.

“This is a big club, a very big club, and the type of club I want to play for. I played here once before at the stadium when I was 16 (for Manchester United Under-23s) and I really enjoyed it.

“It was exciting to watch the game against Sheffield United, the fans here are intense and I cannot wait to play in front of them.

“I just want to get out there and experience it.

“I also love working with Russell and I just know he can get the best out of me. The big thing about him is trust. When I came in from United, he told me exactly how it was straight away."
