Ethan Laidlaw earns Liverpool trial as Hibs youngster attracts even more EPL interest

Liverpool have taken Hibs youngster Ethan Laidlaw on trial.

The 16-year-old striker has gone down to train with the Anfield side’s development team.

Hibs have given permission for Laidlaw to train on Merseyside this week at the club's sparkling new Kirkby base.

The teenager has already attracted interest from top English clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea while he also had a training stint at Leeds United earlier in the season.

Hibs only handed Laidlaw his first professional contract back in February amid the hype from sides down south.

The Leith club have big hopes for Laidlaw but are aware of increasing interest.

Meanwhile, Easter Road hero Tam McManus has called on the players to front up to their Scottish Cup Final defeat rather than boss Jack Ross.

He wrote in his Record Sport column: "The three guys you needed to turn up - Boyle, Kevin Nisbet and Doidge with over over 40 goals between them - never kicked a ball.

"Only one man who started the game in a Hibs shirt can look himself in the mirror after that - the goalkeeper, Matt Macey.

"That’s why Hibs lost. Simple. Even Macey’s penalty save should have injected life into them for the closing stages. But nothing. It was awful.

"Jack has taken a lot of abuse from the fans. But the only thing I would question him about was playing Ryan Porteous ahead of Darren McGregor.

"That's it as far as the manager goes."
