Ethan Laidlaw bagged a superb hat-trick while on international duty with Scotland Under-17s.
But his sensational treble wasn't enough for the Hibs starlet to stop Brian McLaughlin's men from being edged 4-3 against Wales in Stirling.
Laidlaw was an unused substitute for a 1-1 draw between the countries earlier in the week but was given a starring role on Sunday afternoon.
Scotland however got off to a difficult start. Wales were awarded an early penalty, dispatched by Toby Snook, before doubling their lead through an own goal.
Laidlaw hit back with two rapid-fire responses before the break with the teams taking to the dressing rooms locked at two goals apiece.
And he'd add one more after the restart to give McLaughlin's men the lead.
However the 16-year-old was powerless to stop a late salvo that saw Japhet Matondo then Alex Roberts snatch a win.
No other Hibs or Hearts players were included in the matchday squad, one that featured four starting players from Aberdeen while Motherwell, Kilmarnock and Manchester City's academies were also represented.
