Ethan Galbraith soaking it all in after receiving Northern Ireland call-up

Manchester United teenager Ethan Galbraith admits he was shocked to be included in Ian Baraclough’s plans for tomorrow’s crucial Euro 2020 playoff final with Slovakia.

The 19-year-old made his debut in a friendly win over Luxembourg 14 months ago after being promoted from the U21s squad at the last moment.

But being named in Baraclough’s senior panel from the off last week ahead of such a pivotal fixture is a major step forward for the Old Trafford starlet.

Galbraith, who signed a new contract with United until 2023 only a fortnight ago, said: “Ian gave me a ring and I thought it was a normal call to check up on me.

“But he told me I was in the squad and it’s unbelievable. It’s my first time to be fully in with the senior squad and to get a taste of it this week is class.”

Galbraith followed Northern Ireland’s Euro 2016 odyssey in France as a fan and now the talented midfielder is one game away from potentially going to Euro 2020 as a player.

“I went to the Euros and enjoyed it,” he said.

“I also went to the fan zones to see the team do what they did in France, so to be involved in this game is massive for me.”
