Ethan Galbraith added to Manchester United squad for Real Sociedad clash

Ethan Galbraith has been added to Manchester United's 22-man match day squad for Thursday's game against Real Sociedad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side lead 4-0 going into the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

Galbraith comes in for the injured Scott McTominay to bolster Solskjaer's midfield options.

The 19-year-old's inclusion follows a string of impressive displays for the club's Under 23 development side.

Galbraith has already made his United first-team debut.

That came in last season's Europa League when he came on as a late substitute against Astana.

The Co Antrim youngster was also included in the Europa League squad for the knockout stages in Cologne last year but was not used.

And now Galbraith is being tipped to start against Sociedad.

Manchester Evening News reporter Tyrone Marshall said: "Injuries are causing an issue in midfield and a combination of Fred and Matic again would be a negative decision.

"Galbraith deserves his chance from the start alongside a senior and more defensive partner in Matic. It makes sense to give Fernandes the night off, with Mata the more attacking midfielder."

Samuel Luckhurst said: "Ethan Galbraith might as well start next to Nemanja Matic as neither will on Sunday", while Rich Fay added: "Galbraith deserves a start and playing him alongside Matic would at least ease the pressure on him to do a job defensively, with Mata the logical option in place of Fernandes."

Full confirmed United squad:

David de Gea, Dean Henderson, Lee Grant, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Axel Tuanzebe, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Luke Shaw, Alex Telles, Brandon Williams, Fred, Nemanja Matic, Ethan Galbraith, Shola Shoretire, Bruno Fernandes, Amad, Daniel James, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial.
