Ethan Ampadu: Leeds confirm defender joins from Chelsea in £7m deal

Leeds have confirmed the signing of Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea.

The versatile defender, who can also play in midfield, joins for an initial £7million. The Blues can pocket another £3m in performance-related add-ons.

Ampadu has signed a four-year contract to become Leeds’ first signing of the summer.

Chelsea were ready to cash in on the defender, who has spent periods of the last four seasons out on loan and had just 12 months remaining on his contract.

“I think as a club, the history doesn’t have to be sold,” Ampadu told the club’s official website. “Everyone knows how big of a club Leeds United is. Obviously we are now in the position we are, but we all want more.

“When I spoke with the boss [Daniel Farke], as soon as I got off the phone call I knew what I wanted, he really impressed me.

“He told me what he liked about me and where he thinks I can improve as a player. That all helped me choose Leeds United.”

Ampadu is expected to make his Leeds but in Saturday’s pre-season friendly with Monaco at the LNER Community Stadium.
