The Okinawa Convention and Visitors Bureau announced on Thursday they estimate a 3.06 million, or 87.2%, drop in the number of tourists coming to Okinawa Prefecture between April and July compared to last year because of the new coronavirus pandemic. The bureau also estimates a 231.9 billion yen, or 85.5%, drop in revenue for the prefecture.
These estimates include figures from airline companies, the prefecture's resorts, business hotel reservations and other tourist-related businesses. The estimates were calculated under the assumption that international flights will continue to be grounded and cruise ships will not be docking at the ports.
According to the figures, there will be a 90% to 95% drop in tourists between April and June and a 72.4% drop in July, but there may be more future cancellations.
