Esther McVey claims Eamonn Holmes is reason behind 'feud' with Lorraine Kelly

Esther McVey has claimed the real reason behind that awkward moment with Lorraine Kelly was her promotion on GMTV.

Lorraine was accused of throwing shade at telly presenter turned politician Esther during a live link with Good Morning Britain.

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid had been interviewing Esther about her bid for Tory leadership when they went live to Lorraine to see what was coming up on her show.

Susanna asked Lorraine if she remembered Esther from their days on GMTV together and things got a little awkward.

Lorraine pursed her lips together and said "Yeah" as she nodded and laughed before swiftly moving on to say what was happening on her show.

Esther was later asked about the frosty reception during the press conference for her leadership launch, broadcast on ITV News.

A voice off screen asks: "What went on between you and Lorraine Kelly?"

Esther throws her head back and laughs, before saying: "Well we used to share a dressing room and she used to be the programme afterwards and obviously she used to be partnered with Eamonn Holmes, then I was promoted to be partnering with Eamonn Holmes.

Did Lorraine Kelly throw shade at Esther McVey?

"But, she's great and it was a great show, and I can't believe it, I think it was 20 years ago I did that show, but never mind, it was really good at the time, it was really good fun."

On GMB, Piers couldn't resist stirring things.

He said to the host: "So you got on with Esther then, Lorraine?"

Lorraine looked flustered as she replied: "I don't remember, I don't remember, I don't remember at all. It was a long time ago."

Piers went on: "Ooh if looks could kill!"
