Worth almost $9bn (£6bn) a year, Estée Lauder is one of the largest cosmetic companies in the world, its products sold in more than 150 countries. The company dominates the luxury end of the market, with prestige names such as La Mer, MAC, Aveda and Jo Malone among its 26 skincare, hair and fragrance brands. Estée Lauder employs 34,500 people in 43 global offices and appears on Forbes' annual World's Most Innovative Companies list, in recognition of its creative business approach. Despite its scale, the business retains a strong 'family' culture and promotion from within is common: many of its top executives started their careers on the beauty counter.
