Estate of 'Golden Girls' and 'Maude' actress Bea Arthur sells in Brentwood

Aug. 05--The Brentwood home of the late "Golden Girls" star Bea Arthur has sold for $14.925 million.

Set amid oaks and sycamore trees, the 1920s Spanish-style house was designed by Cliff May. The California architect was known for his indoor-outdoor approach to living spaces and is often associated with ranch-style houses. Apparently he was no slouch in other styles either. The result here was spectacular.

Over the years, the home was expanded to 6,000 square feet. The living room features a vaulted beamed ceiling, skylights and a fireplace.

There is an updated kitchen/great room combination with a fireplace, a formal dining room, a media room, a bar, an art studio, a den, a gym, a library/study, two offices, five bedrooms and six bathrooms.

The four acres of grounds include an oval-shaped swimming pool with a waterfall spa and flagstone lounging deck, hiking trails and a tennis court.

Arthur won Emmys for "The Golden Girls" (1985-92) and "Maude" (1972-78). The actress, who died in 2009 at 86, also won a Tony for "Mame" (1966).

Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency was the listing agent. Stanley Richman of Coldwell Banker represented the buyer.
