Essex lorry death investigation leads to arrest of NI man in London

A 23-year-old man from Northern Ireland has been arrested in the early hours of this morning in connection with the death of 39 people in a lorry container in Essex.

The man was arrested by officers from Thames Valley Police on behalf of Essex Police in the early hours of this morning on the M40 in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.

In a statement Essex police said: "A 23-year-old man from Northern Ireland was arrested by officers from Thames Valley Police on behalf of Essex Police in the early hours of this morning on the M40 in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. in connection with our enquiry in to the deaths of 39 Vietnamese nationals in a lorry trailer found in Grays on 23 October.

"He was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to traffic people and conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration and remains in custody."

Mo Robinson, 25, from Portadown, Co Armagh , and Eamon Harrison, 22, from Newry in Co Down , have both been charged separately with 39 counts of manslaughter, human trafficking and immigration offences in relation to the discovery in Grays, Essex on on Wednesday 23 October.
