Essex lorry: Armagh man, 23, charged with human trafficking offences

A Co Armagh man has been charged with human trafficking offences.

Christopher Kennedy, 23, was arrested on Friday, November 22 by detectives in Essex in connection with the enquiry in to the deaths of 39 Vietnamese nationals.

The 31 men and eight women were found dead  in a lorry trailer found in Grays, Essex on Wednesday, October 23.

Kennedy, of Corkley Road in Darkley is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court tomorrow,  Monday 25 November.

He was arrested by officers from Thames Valley Police on behalf of Essex Police on the M40 in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire on Friday past.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised charges of conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of people with a view to exploitation and conspiracy to facilitate the commission of a breach of UK immigration law."
