Essex 'drug deaths': Two men arrested following six suspected drug deaths

Cian Daly, 20, has been hailed by friends as one of the 'kindest people' they know

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs following the deaths of six people in Essex.

It comes after the suspected drugs-related deaths of three men and three women between July 28 to 30, Essex Police said.

Police said in a statement: "Detectives investigating six suspected drugs-related deaths in south Essex have arrested two people.

"Three men and three women died between July 28 and 30. Tests to identify the drug or substance involved are under way but our focus remains on Class A drugs.

"A 26-year-old man from London and a 29-year-old man from Grays were arrested in Barking on Friday afternoon on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

"They are both currently in custody."

The first victim to be named was 20-year-old Cian Daly, 202, from Leigh-on-Sea.

In a tribute, previously released through police, his family remembered him as a "free spirit" who was "always everyone's best mate".

They said he was "cheeky and popular" and that "if anyone had a problem, he would drop everything for them".

Friends of the 20-year-old paid tribute to the motorbike enthusiast.

Best friend Oliver George, from Basildon, was reported in local paper The Echo as saying: “I literally don’t know what I am going to do without you mate.

“Not only was Cian one of the most clever people I know (he could strip a bike engine up and down for fun when he was 16), he was also one of the kindest people I know.

“He helped teach young and disabled children fishing voluntarily, as well as be there for his friends 24/7."
