Essential maintenance project on A77 at Turnberry Bridge for almost six weeks

Scotland TranServ will begin an essential scour maintenance project on the A77 at Turnberry Bridge, adjacent to Maidens Road, next week.

Repairs will be made to the structure where scouring has occurred including installation of rock armour on the embankment and the construction of protection plinths along the foot of the abutments to prevent erosion from the Milton Burn.

The project will help to protect the integrity of the trunk road and preserve the natural environment of the area.

Temporary traffic lights will be installed the stretch on the A77 at Turnberry Bridge, adjacent to the A719 Maidens Road, for almost six weeks.

The lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 4pm from Tuesday, July 21 until Friday, August 31 with works taking place during daytime, Monday to Friday.

Drivers requiring to use the A77 for essential journeys are advised to allow some extra time to pass through the temporary traffic lights.

Special arrangements have been put in place for emergency service vehicles.

Motorists can find live trunk road information by visiting trafficscotland.org or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.

Brian Laurie, Scotland TranServ’s Network Bridges Manager said: “This stretch of the A77 trunk road is an important route connecting the Cairnryan ferry ports with Glasgow and the Central Belt.

“It is a busy destination for tourists and golf traffic. Currently it is an essential link for emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as they go about their vital work.

“It is important that we continue our essential works in order to maintain road safety across South West Scotland.”
