ESPN writers agree Ohio State will make playoff, but differ on how far Buckeyes go

Now that Ohio State is ready to kick off the season, it’s time to get a look at where some of the ESPN writers believe the Buckeyes will end up in the postseason. There’s good news and not so good news if you’re a fan of all things scarlet and gray.

Every single writer on the panel for ESPN’s Week 3 Bowl Projections has the Buckeyes in the top four making the College Football Playoff. That means a potential fo either the Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl if you’re keeping track.

From there though, most writers polled at ESPN do not believe Ohio State will get beyond that. It’s close though. Six of the seven have OSU in the top two, but seven have OSU as either No. 3 or No. 4 in the field.

More than that, two writers, Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach give their picks for what teams make which of the two bowls and who they face. Bonagura has Ohio State facing Alabama in the “Granddaddy of them all,” but Schlabach has the Buckeyes facing the Tide in the Sugar Bowl. The difference there is which team is the higher seed. If ‘Bama ends up the higher seed, it’ll likely be placed in the Sugar Bowl. Ohio State would most likely be placed in the Rose if the higher seed.

Both Bonagura and Schabach have the OSU going down to the Crimson Tide and bowing out, with the national championship in Miami coming down to Alabama and Clemson again.

This is all a best guess at this point, and I know we might be a bit biased here, but we think a lot of the national media are sleeping on how good this Ohio State team can — and will — be.
