Major news on the college football broadcast front Thursday. The SEC — the premier conference in the sport will be changing channels, er, networks in 2024.
ESPN will take the television rights from CBS. The 10-year deal is worth a reported $300 million annually, which is a major increase from the $55 million per year that the conference receives from CBS—a deal that was struck in 1996.
ESPN and ABC have rights to broadcast the league’s 15 best football matchups as well as eight marquee basketball games. ABC lands the rights to the SEC football championship game.
SI.com reports SEC schools each stand to make about $20 million more in annual TV revenue checks starting in 2024, eclipsing the Big Ten as the richest conference in terms of annual TV cash.
