ESPN Stats and Info: Jameis Winston’s threw Saints’ longest pass since 2016

That’s not something you see every day. It’s not something New Orleans Saints fans have seen in years — five years, according to ESPN Stats and Info. When Jameis Winston swung out off of play action and looked for Marquez Callaway streaking downfield, he lobbed a pass that traveled 53.3 yards through the air until it landed in his receiver’s hands.

ESPN’s stats department found that was the longest pass completion anyone has thrown by the Saints since 2016. And that includes preseason, regular season, and postseason games. We’ve known Winston’s arm was different from anyone else we’ve seen in training camp this year, but it’s eye-opening to see his longest throw compared to everything thrown by Drew Brees, Taysom Hill, Teddy Bridgewater, J.T. Barrett, Tom Savage, and anyone else who passed through in that time.

Here’s hoping that’s a bellwether of what’s to come should Winston be named the new Saints starting quarterback.
