ESPN’s Todd McShay calls K.J. Hill one of the “best late-round finds”

The Los Angeles Chargers picked up K.J. Hill in the last round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Everyone that watched Hill over the last four years at Ohio State was completely shocked.

No, he’s not the fastest. Is he the most athletic? Also a no. But, Hill has a knack of getting open with smooth routes and exceptional hands. And like players such as Michael Thomas and Keenan Allen, that could be his important trait.

Hill, who was projected to be taken at least in the first five rounds, continued to fall until the point where many may have thought he’d be signing a deal as an undrafted free agent.

Given the depth at wide receiver in this draft, especially the high-end talent taken in the first few rounds, teams that needed the position found their guy early, letting someone not overly intimidating physically slip.

However, ESPN’s Todd McShay is a fan of the pick, listing Hill in an article regarding the top late-round picks. “The pick screams value. I had a fourth-round grade on Hill, but he was still there in round 7,” McShay wrote.

The leading receptions leader at a top-tier program slipping in the seventh round feels almost unheard of. That’s where the value comes from; now, let’s just hope he can repay the favor and become a top threat for the Chargers.
