ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith hilariously calls Dwayne Haskins a “better runner than thrower”

Put this one in the category of overreaching of a sport I don’t know or watch from the “worldwide leader” in sports programming.

In a segment on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith tried to compare Kyle Murray to Dwayne Haskins when it comes to which he would take in the NFL Draft. Serious as all get out, Smith had this to say:

Ummm, okay. A “better runner than thrower?” Haskins only ran for 108 yards this year. He passed for 4,831 yards. That total included him being one of only six players in the history of college football that threw for fifty touchdown passes. He is basically a pure pocket passer.

Then, when called out by the entire college football universe, rather than man up and admit he made a mistake by trying to talk about something he clearly had no clue about, Smith hilariously tried to tap-dance his way back from the edge of respectability.

And he didn’t let up, even though he had gone down the rabbit hole from Hades at this point.

Personally, this is my favorite comeback on these ridiculously uneducated comments from Smith. This meshed together two-play clip highlights the skill set of Haskins. First he throws an absolute dime that hits Johnnie Dixon on stride for a TD. That is then contrasted by the turf monster getting a hold of Haskins on a scramble against Nebraska.

Thank you for this laugh Doug Lesmerises.

Oh, and by the way, this isn’t the first time Stephen A. Smith has misspoke on all things related to football. He had this multi-layered mistake-prone take in December.

Maybe if ESPN hadn’t laid off so many folks that actually knew a great deal about football, they wouldn’t keep putting Stephen A. Smith in these positions.

Too soon?
