ESPN's Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser bringing 'PTI' to Northwestern for alma mater basketball clash

CHICAGO _ Pardon the school spirit.

Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser are bringing ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption" to Evanston's renovated Welsh-Ryan Arena on Nov. 16 ahead of that night's men's basketball clash of their respective alma maters, Northwestern and Binghamton University.

Wilbon and Kornheiser also are scheduled to work with play-by-play announcer Will Flemming on that evening's Wildcats-Bearcats telecast, set for 6 p.m. on ESPNews, likely testing the concept of not cheering on press row.

Admission and parking for "PTI" will be free. Doors at the arena are supposed to open at 2:45 p.m. for the taping, which is expected to run from 3:15 p.m. to about 4:15 p.m. More details are available at NUSports.com/PTI.

Road trips with both co-hosts have been relatively rare in 17 years of "PTI," seen locally weekdays at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN

The last time Wilbon and Kornheiser originated their show together away from their Washington studio was when they took the program to Nationals Park in conjunction with Major League Baseball's All-Star Game in July.

Wilbon received his bachelor of science degree in journalism in 1980 from Northwestern and is a member of that school's board of trustees. An instructor at its Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, he was university's commencement speaker in 2010.

Kornheiser received his bachelor of arts degree in English in 1970 and is a member of the Binghamton University Foundation's board of directors. The recipient of an honorary doctorate of letters from the New York school, he gave a commencement address there last year.
