ESPN’s Mel Kiper gives Dolphins’ 2019 draft a B

One of the challenges of assessing the NFL Draft is that there is zero context on how players are going to acclimate to the league. There is so much volatility in transitioning from college football to the NFL. But none the less, analysts each year make sure they weigh in on the perceived value that teams were able to collect — typically referring to preferred outcomes or missed opportunities.

Rotoworld’s Evan Silva weighed in on the Dolphins class, offering the Dolphins a ‘C+’ for their efforts. Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. is a little more ambitious with the group the Dolphins collected last weekend — he’s given the Dolphins a ‘B’.

“Miami is undergoing a complete rebuild this offseason … it has need at almost every position,” wrote Kiper. “This is going to be a long process for the Dolphins, and they’re just beginning. This draft will be remembered for the Rosen deal, but Wilkins could be a steal.”

Kiper graded ten teams in the NFL with lower scores than Miami, although the Dolphins’ grade of a ‘B’ also had them tied with multiple other franchises — leaving them in the middle of the pack for 2019 according to Kiper. Before long, Miami’s rookies will get the chance to take the field and try to play up to and beyond expectations.

We’ll get a better idea of how Miami really drafted when that day comes.
