ESPN’s Mel Kiper expects WR A.J. Brown to make instant impact for Titans

The Tennessee Titans looked to gain more depth at wide receiver by drafting former Ole Miss wideout A.J. Brown in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

But just how quickly will the No. 51 overall pick make his presence felt in Nashville?

On Monday, ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper released a list of rookies he expected to make an instant impact on their new teams. Brown’s name was on the list.

“Brown, who had 2,572 total receiving yards in the SEC over the past two seasons, could contribute as a rookie, as the Titans will use the season to evaluate quarterback Marcus Mariota in a make-or-break year,” Kiper wrote.

The 6-foot, 226-pounder could provide another weapon for Mariota outside of Corey Davis, the only Titans receiver to top 800 yards last year.

“Mariota will need all of the options he can get, and Brown can play in the slot and outside.”

Brown provides an option for the Titans as a hard-nosed receiver who is proven by the numbers. One of the most important traits he brings is his versatility, with the ability to perform well not only in the slot, but X and Z as well.

In his three seasons with the Rebels, Brown totaled nearly 3,000 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. Those are impressive numbers for any receiver, especially one in a conference as competitive as the SEC.
