ESPN’s Matthew Berry predicts breakout year for Giants’ Daniel Jones

When it comes to predicting which direction New York Giants second-year quarterback Daniel Jones will head in 2020, you will find a mixed bag of opinions.

Some experts feel he’s just an average player who can make a play here and there, while others see a much higher ceiling for the former Duke star.

The Giants are hoping their famous roll of the dice in last year’s NFL Draft, taking Jones sixth overall, will pay off in a big way going forward after Jones’ roller-coaster of a rookie season in 2019.

ESPN fantasy football expert Matthew Berry is predicting Jones will be a breakout star this fall.

“The fifth-best QB in fantasy over the second half of last season, Jones flashed massive upside as a rookie, delivering four games with 28-plus fantasy points,” writes Berry. “And he was able to do that with Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate, Darius Slayton and Evan Engram playing zero snaps together. With a deep group of offensive playmakers, plus mobility (Jones averaged more than 21 rushing yards per game in 2019), and a defense that will force him to throw plenty, Danny Dimes is in perfect position for a breakout season in 2020.”

That’s got to be music to general manager Dave Gettleman’s ears as he has staked his career on the selection of Jones. The Giants hope to have their full compliment of offensive weapons on the field this year for Jones to play with along with their revamped offensive line and new scheme with Jason Garrett calling the plays.
