ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky breaks down Dwayne Haskins’ first career interception

The preseason is a great time for young athletes to get their jitters out and make the mistakes that come with inexperience, as long as they learn from them in the future.

After the Washington Redskins lost to the Cleveland Browns in the first preseason game of the year last week, game tape from the contest has been reviewed by many, and some are pointing to the play of rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins, noting small improvements he can make.

One of the more notable critics of the young player is Dan Orlovsky, a current analyst on ESPN’s Get Up and a former QB for the Detroit Lions. In the video, he breaks down film of Haskins first interception of the night, but he notes that it was more of a mistake made by the receiver than the quarterback.

Robert Davis, who was the receiver on the play in question, missed a “rub-route” that would have allowed the running back to find more room on the edge, likely completing the pass. Haskins reacted to the play as it developed, but the linebacker made a nice play.

It’s obviously a preseason game, and the stakes are low, but breaking down the footage of Haskins shows where he can get stronger, and where the team can improve as a whole. There’s a good chance that this play is being shown extensively in Redskins film-sessions as well.
