Mitch Trubisky has been an easy target for criticism through his first four seasons in the NFL. He’s been ‘just a guy’ since the Chicago Bears made him the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, the class that produced Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson later in the same round.
The Trubisky critics come from all corners of football: the fans, the media, the guy at the corner store. It’s unavoidable, and at times, unbearable (no pun intended).
That’s why it’s extra special when the Bears secure a win like they did in Week 1 over the Detroit Lions, 27-23, in dramatic comeback fashion. Their fourth-quarter resurrection was spearheaded by Trubisky, who threw three touchdowns in what may have been his best 15 minutes of football as a pro.
It’s also extra special when an analyst like ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky issues a social media apology to Trubisky, whom he’s been critical of, in the days following Week 1’s victory.

Here’s the rub: Orlovsky took a shot at Trubisky even in an apology. He tweeted that Trubisky’s mechanics “still stink,” which isn’t necessarily an endorsement for No. 10 moving forward.
If a quarterback has bad mechanics, he won’t last long in the NFL.
Still, Orlovsky gave Mitch credit for making “big big throws” for what was an improved Bears offense in Week 1.
At this point, any compliment directed at Trubisky is welcome. Even if it’s somewhat backhanded.
