The end of June is one of the slowest times in the NFL, minicamps have concluded and players are enjoying their summer breaks before training camps kick off at the end of July.
To kill the time, the ESPN Nation writers put together a list of their offseason rankings for all 32 teams around the league. The writers used four designations: elite, above average, average and too soon to tell.
The Seahawks join a handful of other clubs as “too soon to tell” teams, with lingering questions to be answered heading into the regular season.
“Do they have enough pass-rushing firepower?” writes Seahawks reporter, Brady Henderson. “The Seahawks drafted end L.J. Collier with the first-round pick (No. 29 overall) they acquired in the Clark trade, but recent history tells us there’s only so much first-year production to be expected from pass-rushers drafted outside the top 15.”
“Ziggy Ansah is also a wild card because of the uncertainty with his surgically repaired shoulder,” Henderson continued. “While the Seahawks don’t think Reed was just a one-year wonder with his 10.5 sacks last season, it’s hard for interior defensive linemen to sustain that level of pass-rush production.”
Both Ansah and Reed missed out on the offseason workouts, Ansah still recovering from shoulder surgery and Reed rehabbing after a sports hernia operation.
Things should become more clear for Seattle’s defense – and the rest of the roster – when the pads come on at training camp.
